Obituary of Pearl Whicker Sagers Nelson

Please share a memory of Pearl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Pearl Whicker Sagers Nelson, 97, died April 20, 2018. She was born in a small Southern Utah Community where she was a high school drummer, and had a cat named Hussy. Her parents, Amanda and Robert, taught her to live her heritage of strong, honorable people. She attended BYU, LDS Business College, and Salt Lake Community College. After retiring from a career in accounting, she followed her dream and co-owned an interior design firm until she retired the second time. With a passion for giving to her community, she served for 13 years on the Rose Park Community Council, and 14 years on the Mobile Watch, where her nickname was Silver Streak. She served on several Salt Lake County advisory boards where she championed the causes for the northwest quadrant of Salt Lake City, including the establishment of a health clinic and River's Bend Community Center. She was a devout member of the LDS church and served in many Ward and Stake callings including chorister, teacher, and Relief Society President. She served eight years as a Church Service Missionary at the Family History Library and did years of extracting/indexing records for Family Search.
She married twice, Dee and Wendell, and outlived both husbands. She was the youngest of her siblings, Robert, Wallace, Ellis, and Fern, and dear cousin, Jetta. She outlasted all of them and had great stories about each and their pranks as youth.
Her family includes her children, Pam and Rand, step-children, Peg, Phil, and Earl, numerous cherished grand, great, and great-great grandchildren, and dear niece, Connie, and nephews Neil and Dale (Mily), and special spirit, Inge, who have gone above and beyond in their love and care.
The family thanks the South Davis Health system for their vigil, compassion, and professionalism. We profoundly thank the many neighbors, friends, and community members who have so selflessly honored and cared for our mother.
Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, April 28, at 10 a.m., with a reception at 9 a.m., at the Rose Park 2nd Ward, 760 North 12th West. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Salt Lake County River's Bend Community Center in memory of Pearl Nelson. Internment will be in her beloved small Southern Utah town. Home, at last.
