Gerald Bowman Eliason October 16, 1936 – March 15, 2025 Gerald Bowman Eliason, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on October 16, 1936, in Bancroft, Idaho, to Joseph and Ruby Eliason, Gerald—or “Gerry,” as he was affectionately known—was raised on a family farm, where he cultivated a strong work ethic and a curious mind. Gerry graduated as valedictorian of North Gem High School’s Class of 1952, showcasing his sharp mind and determination. His deep faith led him to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Helsinki, Finland, an experience that reinforced his lifelong devotion to God.  He married his sweetheart, Carolyne, and together they built a life rooted in faith and family. Gerry was preceded in death by Carolyne, as well as his brothers JB and Norrel, his sister Barbara, and his parents. Their heavenly reunion is undoubtedly filled with joy. He is survived by his brother Pete (Susanne). A man of patience, hard work, and boundless energy, Gerry spent 30 years working for IBM in the field of computers, retiring with a legacy of dedication. Yet, his true passion shone brightest in his family and his adventures on two wheels. A dedicated bike rider, Gerry was addicted to going fast and could often be seen cruising the roads near his home on his signature yellow recumbent bike. Known by those around him as “Gerry Andretti,” he took pride in his speed, with one of his proudest moments being the day he hit 30 miles per hour flying down a hill. Gerry’s love for God and family was the heart of his life. He leaves behind nine children: Shane (Maria), Keri, Cynthia Green (Byron), Alisa Hancock (Doug), Melanie Valderrama (Jason), Tera Rose (Tom), Nathan (Bekah), Jenny “Empire Strikes Back” Fogg (Daryl), and Gayla Mead (Thomas). His family grew to include 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. Known for his gentle spirit and warm heart, Gerry found delight in life’s sweet treats—honey, ice cream, lemon drops, and especially Bit-O-Honey candies were among his favorites. His legacy is one of faith, love, and a need for speed, inspiring all who knew him. A memorial will be held to celebrate Gerry’s remarkable life on April 25, 2025 in South Jordan, Utah.
