Melissa Hanson

April 17th, 1977 – July 8th, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Melissa Hanson on July 8th, 2025, at the age of 48.

Melissa was born on April 17, 1977, and grew up in Bountiful and Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Brighton High School and later spent several years in Hawaii, where she built lifelong friendships and lasting memories.

Upon returning to Utah, Melissa found her calling in caregiving. As an in-home aide, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to the well-being of others. She loved everyone she cared for and was a strong advocate for both their physical and emotional health.

Melissa had a courageous flare for fashion. She did not believe in “matchy-matchy.” The more color and patterns she could layer the better!

Above all, Melissa had a heart that knew no bounds. She welcomed everyone without judgement. She had the instant ability to understand other people’s feelings and ideas. She was a fierce champion for the overlooked, often engaging in small acts of kindness that made a big impact—whether it was a care package for a loved one, support for someone experiencing homelessness, sharing her latest Trader Joe’s haul with friends, or simply a warm smile and embrace for anyone who was hurting. She never looked away from those in need.

Proceed in death by brother Josh Thurston, both sets of grandparents; Ron and Barbra Hanson, and Bob and Vesta Belnap.

She is survived by her loving mother Shelley Thompson and stepfather John Thompson; her father Mike Hanson and stepmother Kim Hanson; her siblings Kristen Hanson (children Grace and Chloe), Haley (Travis) Rannals (children Ella and Miles), Nick (Kristen) Moore (children Reese and JJ), Tyson (Lindsey) Moore, Kylee Moore, and Kaisha (Tyler) Duclos (children Havyn and OakLynn); and her furry kitty companion, Milk.

There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date.
