Lucky Young Obituary

Lucky Young was born in May of 1941 to James and Wilma Young in the state of Washington. He was the oldest of three kids. Growing up they went on many family trips.


Between 1950 -1958 the family moved around due to James's work. They lived in Illinois, Washington, Oregon, California before moving to Utah in 1958.

Lucky attended Bountiful High School where he graduated in 1960. Shortly after High school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he would serve his country for 12 years receiving the National Defense Service Medal amongst other awards. He enjoyed traveling to places like the Philippines, Japan before being honorably discharged.


Lucky married his first wife, Marjorie Pope, in 1965 whom he met In High School. They went on to adopt three children: Elizabeth, David and Stephen. Lucky and Marjorie lived with their three children in California where was stationed at Alameda Air Station. While in California he loved to attend games and watch the Oakland Raiders. Lucky also worked in a bookstore while in California. A few years later they relocated to Bountiful Utah. They later divorced.


Lucky started working at Coca-Cola distributor plant in Salt Lake as a driver in 1976, where he would meet his second wife Bernice Hopkinson. They dated for a year before marrying in April of 1979 in Elko, Nevada enjoying the five children’s company on the trip. They lived in West Valley, Utah for the remainder of their 47 years of marriage.


He would become stepfather to Bernice’s two children Veronica and William (Bill).


They had many memorable camping trips, day adventures at Lagoon amusement park with all 5 kids. Some of those trips included going to Victoria Canada.


Lucky would continue to work for Coke going from a driver to working in the dispatch office receiving awards for his hard work also being apart of the move of the distribution plant from Salt Lake to Draper Utah until he retired in 2008 after 32 years of loyalty to the company.


Lucky spent time with his grandkids, enjoyed hunting and going camping. He loved the NFL team, the Oakland Raiders. Lucky is a lover of books, Steven King being his favorite. He read every book he ever wrote to date. You could catch him anywhere reading a book or listening to Johnny Cash

Lucky enjoyed sharing stories of growing up, and some stories of his time in the Navy.


Lucky passed away January 25th, 2026 surrounded by Family and Friends who will deeply Miss him.


Lucky is preceded in death by his parents James and Wilma Young and son David Young.


He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Bernice Young, his two siblings, Cy (Marla) Young, Dawn (Larry) Hughett, 4 children; Veronica Sharp, William (Bill) Sharp, Elizabeth Young, Stephen Young.


Grandchildren Matthew Sharp, Sandra (Allen) Wilson, Zachariah (Shaylee) Thayne, Natalie Ramsdell, Hailey Nielsen, Triston Simmons, Harley Young and Alexa Young, Forest Young, Madison Young, and William Kenneth Sharp II. Great grandchildren Janessa Nielsen, Bentleigh Thayne, and Valkyrie Nau.


Services for Lucky Young will be held on May 2nd 2026 at Bountiful city cemetery located at 2224 South 200 West At 2:30 pm the north side of the Cemetery. The family will send out reminders when it gets closer to the date.
