I still catch myself picking up the phone to call Gary—Gary, I have missed you now almost a year. I miss your good cooking—the sausage and egg sandwiches on baking soda biscuits you'd made from scratch; the fruit cocktail cake (one of your mother's recipes); your willingness to set the table and fix something to eat for whomever dropped by the house at whatever hour. For years, you were a steadying influence in my life; I often counseled with you, and I took your advice. You shared my love of cats, and you were even adopted by my Trixie's daughter Fred, who left my room to stay with you down the hall. You and I shared a lot of hard work, and you made hard work fun and the hours fly by with your hilarious stories about film stars and the old movies they starred in. Your friends became my friends, and my friends became yours—and we all miss you. I know myself to be blessed, and I know I am a better man, because you were my friend. Thank you.

I am so sad to hear of Gary's passing. I spent a lot of time with Gary prior to me moving to San Francisco, and we became really good friends. I lost touch with Gary the last 8 months since I've been living in San Francisco and now I regret it. He was a kind, gentle, man with a huge heart. I'm going to miss him very much. I know he is with his Mom, Sister and many close friends in heaven. My sincerest condolences to the family. R.I.P. my friend. V!
