Obituary of Joselyn Anne Pope Garcia

Please share a memory of Joselyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joselyn Anne Pope Garcia was born on October 14, 1981. She passed away on October 30, 2019 at the tender age of 38. In addition to her husband, Patrick, and her three boys, Kyison, Parker, and Kooper, she is survived by her parents, Judie Eaton, Mike Eaton, Steve Pope, and her five siblings, Jared Pope (Lynda), of Gilbert, Arizona, Jessica Heward (James), of South Jordan, Utah, Brittany Abbott (Rob), of Pueblo, Colorado, Brady Pope, (Whitney), of Gilbert, Arizona, and Jacob Pope (Caitlyn), of Sandy, Utah, and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and dear friends.

Josie. Her name means, "JOY". Anyone who knew her would say, "amen" to that! She was beautiful, inside and out. As a child, Josie was always giggling. It was as if she held so much happiness inside her that she had to let it out. She had a gift that allowed her to feel compassion for everyone. She wouldn't even kill a bug. Over the years, she brought home many stray animals that needed her loving care. She was mostly a homemaker, but also worked as a dental assistant and loved working with the elderly in hospice. Her husband and her boys were her life. She always put them first, even when her body began to fail her. She met her husband, Pat, who was the love of her life, in 9th grade and they were inseparable. They were married at the tender age of nineteen. They spent time in Rock Springs, Wyoming and Iowa while Pat went to school to earn his BA. Next it was Davenport, Iowa for a degree in Chiropractic Care. Their boys are champion wrestlers and Josie was their biggest cheerleader. She went to  their meets until she could hardly stand up. She insisted on cooking, cleaning, and doing all the household chores herself right up to the end. It gave her peace to continue to serve her family. Josie wanted to make things as normal as possible for her boys.

Josie loved her friends and they could get really crazy. She liked PINK and BLING, and Las Vegas girl trips. She LOVED Lake Powell. She has spent one week there every summer on our timeshare houseboat, "The Best of Times". She soaked up the sunshine and then spread it around to everyone she knew. That is where she asked us to spread her ashes. Josie fought so hard to get better. The last two years were filled with disappointing visits to one specialist after another. No one could give her a complete diagnosis. We were all so hopeful when she was accepted as a patient at the Mayo Clinic. She was released from the clinic in less than 24 hours because they didn't think she was "critical enough". She died 4 days later. She'd had enough. The cause of her death is still unknown. An autopsy was performed and we are waiting for the toxicology reports. There is great comfort in knowing that she no longer  suffers. If Josie could tell us what she believes it would be:  Life is short. Love your family. Cherish them. Be present. Don't judge others, you haven't walked in their shoes. Forgive. Please join us for a celebration of Josie's life on November 16, 2019 from 12-4 at the Magnolia Grove Reception center, 1117 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. Lunch will be served. Dress is dressy- casual. We want to say a special thanks to the Unified Fire Authority, Rosecrest Fire  Station #123. They were exceptionally kind and compassionate and went far beyond the call of duty to try to revive Josie.

A BIG thank you to all her wrestling family and friends who have been there for all of us. We will miss our beautiful girl.
