Obituary of Margaret Joan Sorenson
Joan Sorenson passed away from heart failure October 12, 2019 in her room at Legacy House of Taylorsville. She was born April 29, 1933 in Auburn, Maine to Myra (Wright) and Frank Robinson.
She moved with her mother, father, and siblings Carl, Edith, and Faye from the east coast (Dedham, MA and Syracuse, NY) to Bountiful, Utah at the age of 13. They welcomed little sister Susan into the family after moving there.
Most of her adult life, Joan taught English at Valley Jr. High School in SLC. After early retirement from teaching, she and her husband Blair Sorenson bought and managed a franchise in St. George, Utah. They eventually settled in West Jordan to manage Villa West Mobile Home Park for the remainder of their careers.
She loved boating, camping, roller skating, and bowling. She had the fastest crochet hook in the west (making hundreds of hats, scarves, ponchos, and blankets) and was an accomplished singer.
Joan survived her husband Blair, sister Edith Norton, brother Carl Robinson, and her first husband William Peterson.
She is survived by her sisters Susan Deyesso and Faye Robinson, her children Michael Peterson and Nancy Peterson (Mark), stepchildren Debbie White (Ken), Susan Sorenson, and Steven Sorenson (Shelly); grandchildren Michael, Alana, Schorl, and Tyler; and great grandchildren.
She and Blair most recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.
