Please share a memory of William (Bill) to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bill Brooks passed away on June 26, 2021 at age 95 of natural causes. Bill had a long, interesting, and full life.
Born in Chicago, Il on January 15, 1926, he was raised in nearby Wilmette. Boy Scouting was a major part of his younger years, he achieved Eagle Scout about 1940, and was a Vigil member of OA. He was an attendee of the 1948 convention which merged the OA into the Boy Scouts. He was also a long time Scoutmaster.
Bill served in the Army Air Force in World War II and went to Northwestern University on the GI Bill. In 1948, he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. He also married the love of his life, Peggy, who was to be his companion for 65 years.
His work as a chemical engineer carried him into the fertilizer business. He was soon engaged in development of large scale fertilizer plants in Asia. In 1964, the entire family relocated to India. He eventually lived in and developed fertilizer plants in India, Korea, Pakistan, and the Philippines. These plants continue to produce fertilizers today, helping to feed millions of people.
In 1990, he and Peggy retired to Albuquerque, NM, where they resided for 20 years. He was able to enjoy the great Outdoors in NM, and also take a number of trips throughout the world. They eventually moved to Salt Lake City.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Peggy and daughter, Barbara. He is survived by children Tom and Sally, and grandchildren Heather, Bill, and Isadora. The family wishes to express appreciation for his caregivers since early 2020, including Robert, Lauren, and Homespire.
Contributions in honor of Bill can be made to Nature Conservancy, Jewish Family Service Caregiver Support, the Camp Makajawan Endowment Fund, or charity of choice.
Truly a life filled with love, family, service and achievement.
