Mary Lou (Uttermark) Michalewicz
May 4, 1935 – March 2, 2022.
Mary Lou Michalewicz, 86 years old, passed away on March 2, 2022, at The Auberge at Aspen Park nursing home in Salt Lake City, Utah. A celebration of life will be held this summer in Marshfield, WI. Details will be available at a later date.
Mary Lou Uttermark was born on May 4, 1935, to Henry and Zita Uttermark in Auburndale, Wisconsin. She was named after the popular song at that time. Mary Lou attended elementary school in Auburndale at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and graduated from Auburndale High School in 1952. After graduation, Mary Lou attended University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point receiving a degree in Education. Mary Lou’s first job after graduation was teaching high school in Marathon City, WI. During this time, Mary Lou met Edward Michalewicz.
Mary Lou and Edward were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburndale, Wisconsin on December 26, 1959. Mary Lou was an excellent home maker, seamstress, wife, and mother. During their lives together, Mary Lou and Ed, moved around from Minneapolis, MN, Brookings, SD, Pierre, SD, Houston, TX, Whitefish, MT, Kalispell, MT, Whitewater, WI and Las Vegas, NV. Edward worked for the National Park Service during the summers, which took them to Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, Zion National Park and surrounding Parks, Olympic National Park and Mt. Rainier National Park. Mary Lou taught Home Economics for many years and ending up as the secretary in the Electrical Engineering Department at South Dakota State University (SDSU) in Brookings. Once Ed and Mary Lou settled in Las, Vegas, Mary Lou was the secretary in the Athletic Department at UNLV (University of Nevada, Las Vegas). Ed and Mary Lou both retired in Las Vegas, NV.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Edward Michalewicz, her three children, Michele Michalewicz of Salt Lake City, Utah, Alan Michalewicz (Karolyn) of Meeker, Colorado, Nicole Doherty of Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren, Chelsie Michalewicz Kopf (Brandon), Lauren Michalewicz, Joseph Michalewicz (Emily), Samantha Doherty, Natasha Doherty, and Sean Doherty; one great grandchild, Walter Kopf; her sisters, Roselyn Varsho and Ruth Komis (Don), and her brother, Jack Uttermark.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite Alzheimer’s Research or Hospice Care Programs.
