Obituary of Mary Ellen Ongley

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After a yearlong battle with cancer, our beloved Mom, Grandma, GG, and Sister, Mary Ellen Arveseth Ongley, peacefully passed away at home on November 17, 2024. Mary was born October 2, 1944 to Ruben Oliver Larsen Arveseth and Mary Brock Young Arveseth. She was the middle of seven children. She married James Eugene Ongley, and together they had 3 children, later divorced. Mary was a classy lady, always looking her best. She maintained an orderly, pristine home and was a fabulous homemaker for her children. Mary was frequently game for an adventure and went on many trips with family and friends. She worked in candy making, electronic manufacturing, with her primary career being the banking industry. Mary retired in 2012 to take on the role of Nanny for her twin great grandchildren. After the twins went to school, she cared for a close family friend’s grandbaby. Nothing made Mary happier than spending time with family, especially the children. She was the best GG around and was loved by many. We will treasure all the wonderful memories she gave us. Survived by her children; daughter, Robyn (Lynn) Schneider, sons; Jeff Ongley and Todd (Terri) Ongley, brother James (Renae) Arveseth and sister, Patricia Middaugh, Mary had 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jack, Brent and Bruce, and sister, Deanna Housley. We will celebrate Mary’s life on Monday, November 25, 2024 from 1PM – 3PM, at the Wildflower Event Center, 10255 S 1300 E, Sandy UT 84094, light lunch will be served. A private family graveside service will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society, donate.cancer.org
